“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela

These words encapsulate the essence of bravery and are extremely relevant today as the world mourns for one of the bravest people of all time. A man who was unafraid to fight for what was right, whatever the consequence. He was incarcerated for over a quarter of a century but his beliefs never wavered and as a result of this brave determination and unwavering spirit he helped to change the world, for the better. So we’d like to pay tribute to a truly inspirational leader that inspired generations of people to be brave enough to stand up and fight for peace & equality.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve paid tribute to the great man. In 2008 Archbishop Desmond Tutu wanted to give Mandela a very special gift to celebrate his 90th birthday – and he requested that, with our help and International One, write and record a song that supported his charity ’46664′ and celebrated everything that he stood for.

So today, we feel it’s appropriate that we take a few minutes to celebrate his remarkable life, by revisiting the song that was created for this exact purpose.

Lyrics: Franco.
Performance: Manchester’s very own International One & The Manchester Choir.
Concept & Creative Direction: We Are Brave.
Director: Phil Hawkins.

The title of the song itself, Inyaniso, means ‘the truth’. ‘The truth’ is often hard to hear and more often than not it falls on deaf ears. But brave people can make the truth be heard and when it’s allowed to resonate ‘the truth’ find its voice amongst those who support it. This support then means that ‘the truth’ can then become an instrument of change that allows people to move, speak freely and celebrate the freedom of ‘the truth’.

RIP Nelson Mandela (1918 – 2013)

He may be gone but his bravery and the truth that he fought for shall live eternally.

(If you would like to support Nelson Mandela’s charity the song is still available to
purchase via the iTunes store. All proceeds go to the ‘46664’ charity.)
